08/29/2007 European Open 2007 & The President's Cup Final report

Ken Climo won the 2007 Disc golf European Open tournament

Disc golf European Open & President's Cup is over. Once again top players in the world experienced something special in Tampere, Finland. At the end it was "the champ" Ken Climo to showcase a solid game of disc golf, which did not leave any questions about the winner. After three rounds Ken Climo had a two stroke lead over 2006 European Open champion David Feldberg, but on the final round Mr. Climo did not give really any chance to Mr. Feldberg as the living legend of disc golf played a solid 51, -10 under par.

Really nice surprise was Manabu Kajiyama from Japan who finished third. Timo Pursio from finland had a nice start in tournament, playing the first round 51 and second round 53 Pursio tied the lead with Climo after two rounds. Then something happened and Timo dropped to finish eight place. Markus Källström from Sweden had the hottest round in tournament, he scored 49 on the final round and made a come back to finish fourth.

In the open women's division it was defending European Open women's champion Ms. Carrie Berlogar, USA, to win the tournament again. This year a total score of 238, -6 under par was enough to secure the victory. Ms. Birgitta Lagerholm from Sweden took second, seven strokes behind the winner. Third place went to 2007 PDGA women's world champion Ms. Valarie Jenkins, USA.

Team USA won the President's Cup

President's Cup Team USA 2007:Carrie Berlogar, Nathan Doss, Avery Jenkins, Ken Climo, David Feldberg ( Captain), Terry Roddy, Dana Lawton and Valarie Jenkins.

Defending President's Cup champions Team USA faced the new and improved Team Europe. After the strokeplay on holes 1-9 Team USA ended up leading with the total of 19 points against Team Europes 9 points.

Team USA kept their lead till the end all though team Europe fought back as Swedens Markus Källstrom defeated the USA captain David Feldberg and the 12 time world champion Ken Climo tied with Finlands Timo Pursio. USA masters lost against Hans Tegebäck and Christer Köhler but again the US women came through taking the important points as Valarie Jenkins won Anne Matilainen and Carrie Berlogar got the needed tie for the win against Birgitta Lagerholm.

Total score after 18 holes: Team USA 28, Team Europe 24. The Cup stays with team USA and travels across the Atlantic Ocean to The United States with Carrie Berlogar. This leaves Team Europe and their captain Hans Tegebäck pondering upon what went wrong. President's Cup tradition continues next year with an even closer battle.
